Disability Discrimination

This idea came to me during the day. Have you ever realized that some people are "not all there"? They may be mentally ill, physically disabled, etc. Rather than people show them kindness, they show them hatred. It is not easy for people who are disabled to live there lives, even though some may not be able to understand they are disabled.

I see it in school, not just our school, but in other schools too. Children who have a disability are constantly picked on, bullied, and talked about. It is okay to acknowledge that someone is disabled, but don't make a big deal about it. It is not okay to make them feel any different than you. They deserve the same respect that any other human being does. It truly is a shame when immature
children make fun of such people. They didn't chose to be this way, so why point out the obvious and hurt their feelings? Someone having a disability may be uncomfortable for some people, but be mature enough to understand it affects them way more than it affects you.

Some disability facts for the road:
In 2002, 56 million people in America had disabilities.
25% of people with disabilities were from ages 0 years - 19 years old.
5.6% of Americans are unable to work because of their disabilities.

  1. I agree with this. I always see people with disabilies getting made fun of out on the street, in school, anywhere I go. You are right when you bring up the fact that they didn't chose to be disabled, and why must we make things more difficult for them, people never consider the obstacles disabled people go through every day. While you may put your clothes on in the morning with little to no trouble, there's others where it isn't so easy thanks to their disability. Can u walk up the stairs? Can you even run up them? Maybe you can, but think about those who can't because of their disabilty. People are always discouraged seeing one who is disabled and always DOES make a scene about it. I however, don't. They're still humans, who while can't contribute physically to society, they still have their mentalities and can still do great things. I'd like to believe one day the world will see disabled people not as a people ''below us'', but those who are just as capable as we are of doing things nowadays.

  2. Wow it is crazy that 56 million people in America have some sort of disability. Kids with disabilities should not be treated differently then other people, just because someone acts differently it does not mean that they should be made fun of. The world is filled with different people and we need to accept that. People should start to realize how their actions effect other people, if others treated them differently would they like it? Sometimes it is better to see situations from someone else's point of view because you might see things differently. Our world is filled with diverse people and that is what makes us individuals. No one should be made fun of because they have a disability that is unjust and cruel !

  3. It's not right at all. These type of kids are always made a target by others. My sister is mentally disabled. She has ADHD, so she is not "all there." I can not tell you how many times kids have picked on her because she is different; she does not act the same as others or understand things like they do. It has been hard on her. People just do no understand these people. Instead of making fun of them and targeting them, we should be working to help and understand them. We all have things that are wrong with us, so why must we pick on them?
